  • Online voting for People’s Choice Award opens: 24 July
  • Online voting for People’s Choice Award closes: 11 September, 11.59pm AEST
  • Official opening and award night: 14 September, 5.30 pm - Closed
  • Exhibition open to the public: 16 September - Closed

The National Capital Art Prize is an exciting opportunity to show new and innovative work while gaining exposure to an extensive national audience.

Prize Categories

  • Open Prize valued at $15,000
  • First Nations Prize for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists valued at $15,000
  • Sustainability Prize valued at $15,000

Open and First Nations entries must be paintings. Sustainability entries can be any medium.

There is also the People’s Choice Award valued at $2,500. All finalists are automatically entered in the People’s Choice Award.

The National Capital Art Prize aims to position Canberra as a significant arts hub in Australia and a leading destination for culture and the arts.

The Prize has been established to support and showcase Australian artists and celebrate their skill and diversity.

Open Prize Category

The submitted artwork can be a portrait, landscape, abstract or any subject matter. The artwork can be in medium such as oil, acrylic, charcoal, watercolour, ink, mixed media, pencil or pen and can be on any surface.

Sustainability Prize Category

The Sustainability Prize category is based on the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which is a plan of action for people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnerships. Any medium is accepted. National Capital Art Prize
